Chinese New Year Songs, like the name, are the songs played during the Chinese New Year.

Chinese New Year, or in short, CNY, is the biggest festival for all Chinese around the world. It marks the new year following the Chinese lunar calendar. While the actual date differs from year to year, generally it is celebrated in January or February.

When I was a kid, you can definitely feel the difference in the environment around you about 1 month or a few weeks before CNY. The shopping malls are crowded with people purchasing new clothes, decoration, food, fireworks, etc., decoration has been put up for most houses and most importantly, you will hear CNY Songs being played almost everywhere you go!

Every time I listen to those CNY Songs, I will feel very happy and excited - I guess that is their intention. Do you feel the same way?

It's very easy to differentiate CNY Songs from non CNY Songs - the music. The music for CNY Songs are very "noisy" because Chinese people love to ring in the new year with lion dances accompanied by loud drums, cymbals and firecrackers...all of which make a lot of noise. But it's once in a year and I just love it!

The last few years, there've been many CNY albums released every year by a different group or singer. Most of them will go to another country like China and Australia, just to shoot the music video. Some of the songs are newly created but mixed with some old CNY songs.

But I still prefer those old and classic Chinese New Year songs such as Cai Shen Dao, He Xin Nian, Da Di Hui Chun and so on.

My mom also likes the Chinese New Year songs so every year, I will purchase the CNY Video CD for her. This has almost become an annual tradition, another must-buy item before CNY, besides the clothes!
